Hey guys, I am going to start the repainting of my hull next month. I have been looking at top side paints for the above water section, as that seems to be the recomended practice. The brands I have looked at are Interlux perfection, Awlcraft 2000, Supermarine Revolution or Blue Water Mega Gloss gold.
So, here is my thoughts... I chose these paints because they are very long lasting, easily reparable, and very high shine. I think I have ruled out Blue water, Awlcraft and Interlux because they are above water line only. I am very impressed with the look of Interlux but such an extream cost in all the materials to prep and spray. I want something tough and very bright.
So, I think I may go with the Supermarine Revolution, this paint has a 10 year warranty and it was used on the queen marry 2... But, what are all your thoughts?
Anyone up for a hull sanding party just west of Atlanta? Beer and food provided if anyone wants to help... Beer drinking will be done after the work. I don't want sanded holes in her! |

I did a 22 several years ago with automotive 2 part poly U, I am NOT a pro. painter. I had a little experiance working with this paint on a pickup that turned out well. BUT on the vertical sides of the 22 it bit me, ran so bad it was on the floor.
It looked great when I walked away for a smoke, 10 min. later it was on the floor. Seems it makes heat as it cures thus causing it to run, be very carefull not to get it over wet!! Also DONOT paint your nonskid, that will render it useless as a non skid footing.

Hi,
I wet sanded the hull of an old C-22 years ago and brushed on some high gloss bright red topside paint. Took me about 2 hours, cost $14.00, and looked very good.

thanks guys, the key to painting is light coats with 4 to 12 hour dwell between coats. I am going to clear the boat also for uv protection and very high gloss. I wont be useing poly because it can not be buffed or waxed without damage to the paint stability and long term durability. I just need to know if anyone has experiance with these brands.
Also, the deck will be painted flat and new anti skid paint laid where required. I will not be making a ice skating rink of my deck... |

I used Imron on my 1979 C22 kept on trailer. I painted in 2004 and it still looks great. Very shiny without any buffing. Very tough paint.I don't think it would be the thing for a boat that stays in water although they do have a more expensive marine version. |

Update! I have almost finished primer and long blocking above the water line. The Alexseal primer is great stuff! Very smoth to spray and really easily sands with 220. The primer is epoxy based so should be quite durable... I am on about my 7th coat long blocking after each. The sides should look smooth as glass when I am done! |
