Can someone lay out the details for me to drop my mast on our 1979 Catalina 30. Needs work to be done. New lights, wiring, sheaves, deck dropping.

Hello David.
On my C-27, I paid a yard to un-step then re-step the mast. I figured if I was to rig an a-frame, and make a mistake, it was my problem. If they used their crane and made a mistake, it was their problem. That task is routine for them, and went off without a hitch. It also didn't cost very much (especially compared to the cost of getting a replacement mast if I had damaged my old one!). One more bit of advice: plan ahead and perform every bit of maintenance that you can think of while the mast is down, even if you think it might be a little premature. This way, you only pay to R&R the mast once. Happy sailing!
