Hi Everyone,
I am trying to figure out if I have the proper rode for my Catalina 22.
I have a Danforth 10lbs anchor 4' @ 1/4" chain 180' of 1/2" rope.
I think the chain needs to be heavier and longer.

Thanks for the help

Hello Roderick.

I have heard often that ten feet is the accepted minimum length of chain. The more chain, and the heavier the chain, the more holding power you will get. Quarter inch seems a little light to my way of thinking, and four feet is shorter than I'd be comfortable with. I'm not sure what, or even if there is, a prescribed chain size, but I'd go heavier and longer if I was you. I have even heard of people going with all chain.

Happy sailing!

Kevin
