Just got back from a week on the Gippsland Lakes. I'm sitting at my desk but my chair is still bobbing (haven't got my land legs back yet).

When sailing a few days ago we got photographed by a commercial operator. You can see us by following these instructions:

Go to http://www.be by followingenphotographed.com
Go to "Your Photographs"
Go to 2-1-2004 Boats Paynesville Duck Arm Area, 3 pm - 5.30pm Go to BR69 Reflections

I'd be interested in knowing if you think my main is hoisted too high. What's the regulation boom height off the deck for my boat?

Hi Paul - The regulation height for a new style boom is as follows: The top of the gooseneck should be three feet three inches above the mast step.

A bad day sailing beats almost anything else worth doing including how to figure out how to use this new forum format.

Dick, what is your reference to the "gooseneck" which should be 3'3" above the stepping point?

There is a slide in the mast track that is connected to the forward end of the boom. The top of it is level with the top of the boom. That is what I call the "goose neck." The 3 ft 3 in measurement is for the "new style" that has a higher overhead in the cabin..

Dick, what is the proper measurement for the old-style (1974)?

Chip The "old style" has a cabin that is 3 inches lower. So the top of the boom should be 3 feet 6 inches above the mast step.
