I'm restoring an '84' C-22, and someone had put some kind of colored tape over the molded in stripe just below the deck edge. It seems to be stuck on the hull pretty good. I can't seem to lift an edge of the tape without resorting to some sort of sharp tool. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to go about removing the tape without damaging the gelcoat? solvents?

I'm not sure what kind of tape you are dealing with, but perhaps you could try a hair dryer or low heat, heat gun. Heat the tape until it softens. That plus a putty knife should do the trick. This is the method used for removing vinyl lettering.
