I just bought a 1986 C22 in fair shape and have started cleaning and getting her ready to sail. My first of what will be many questions is is this (http://www.cakandahar.com/photo_gallery/albums/userpics/P6180003_640x480%7E0.jpg) an anchor bridle or is it a bridle that was used for towing? What is its purpose The tow eye seems to be in good condition, so I'm at a loss. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks ahead,
Dave

PS If you can't see or tell in the picture, it is a length of nylon tied to the bow cleats. The thimbled ends are then shackled together with a few feet of slack.

Purposes?
I don't know for sure but it could be used as an alternative U bolt to help hold the boat on the trailer, towing the boat on the water, or for tying off while at anchor or mooring as you suggest.

A sailor would have probably used a splice instead of those clamps.

Already gone. Those clamps aren't allowed on my boat!
