In warm weather or once the crew has sufficient experience they can right the boat quickly, you may decide to sail without the flotation. But it is always available for use with a new sailor or if the weather is going to be rough that day.

1) One customer reports that his CP-14.2 had sail slides installed on the luff of his sail. Although this was not typical, there may have been groups of boats originally sold to a sailing club or sailing school who requested their boats be equipped with slides. This customer reports the sock wouldn't work with his sail equipped with sail slides. We still don't understand why the sock wouldn't work for him, but we haven't had the chance to go sailing on a 14.2 and test it ourselves.
