We include a user installed swageless compression terminal stud on the lower end of each wire. The body screws directly onto the stud eliminating the top turnbuckle toggle. There are fewer parts that can fail and fewer parts to snag sails and
sheets. when compared to the older design which incorporated both upper and lower t-bolt and toggle assemblies. We replace your old turnbuckle toggle with a forged T-bolt design which cannot accidentally unscrew from the bottom slug like earlier designs. Sea Lube turnbuckle lube, turnbuckle clevis pins and new cotter pins are provided.
By including a masthead rigging toggle, we prevent you from having to replace the
forestay again in the near future. We build our forestays assuming you either have a furler or may have one soon. The toggle acts as a universal joint to prevent wire failure due to fatigue from bending each time you
tack. Wire length is modified accordingly to accommodate the toggle.
These
shrouds and forestay are supplied with compression terminal studs so you can trim the wire to length, saving you the trouble of having to send in your old rigging to achieve a perfect fit.
This special kit is designed to be used when it is impossible to determine the rigging length required in advance. Simple had tools are all that are required to attach the compression terminal ends to the wires. Since compression terminal fittings are used at the lower ends and the wires are of sufficient length for the tall rig, this kit will work for either the standard or tall rig boat. The
backstay is ordered separately as there are multiple configurations available.
We are often asked if compression terminal fittings are as strong as a typical swaged fitting. The answer is yes. In fact many long distance cruising boats are rigged totally with compression terminal fittings. This allows repairs when no boat yards are in sight. In fact, a boat can be totally re-rigged with only the correct spares and simple hand tools. There are two reasons why they are not used in a production environment:
We include a selection of thrust washers and instructions for their use when there is a roller furler installed.
1) They are much more expensive than standard marine eyes and threaded studs and
2) They take more time to install than using standard fittings and a swaging machine.
