I recently bought a set of 4 masthead sheaves and a new masthead divider plate. The entire reason I bought them was because I THOUGHT that the sheaves were supposed to be free to spin on the clevis pin when you hoisted or lowered the sails. With my old sheaves, they were completely fixed in position due to the tight spacing and I thought the wire halyards were grooving them out. However, after trying to install my new components, they are just as tight if not tighter than the originals. I'm probably going to have to lube them up just to get them in.
Long question short: Are the masthead sheaves supposed to freely spin when you hoist or lower the sails? |
