I just put my boat in the water and I noticed that I had a vibration in the tiller around 3 Knots. At about 4 to 5 knots the whole boat virbrates. It has a wing keel. Any ideas as to were to begin |

Check the rudder for a broken front edge. If that isn't it, kick the rudder up and see if it vibrates with the motor driving the boat. |

also, make sure your rudder is locked all the way down and your motor is out of the water. If you had a swing keel I would suggest slacking the keel cable.

so let me get this straight....on the swing keel, in order to have the cabel vibration go away you need to give it more slack? If this is the case, how many turns or how much slack is ok? Please your comments |

Jimmy- The keel cable is like a violin string. The tighter it is the higher the frequency of vibration as it moves thru the water. As the tension decreases, the frequency is lowered until you can't hear it anymore. Just back off on the keel winch (counterclockwise0, until the hum goes away. On Jagged Edge it is just a couple of turns. |

Dick, if I remember correctly you mentioned prior to this something about boat speed and the vibration. As I recall you said something about 4+mph when it hums/vibrates on the swing keel. Is this correct? |

Prior to knowing that I need to slack the cable, I think my knot meter read as little as 2 knots when I would hear the vibration, but then again it could be because I had so much tension on the wire.
