I have a fairly new C22 Sport that I have hardly sailed. I intend to correct that matter this summer. I am not sure how to reef the main with the C22 Sport. Given the nature of Kansas winds, I think I best know how to do that. Thanks for your input. |

Hi Richard,
If it is like these photos,

Your sail is ready to be reefed. The reef points are below the lowest batten pocket.
You will need to get the correct equipment. There are kits like CD sells:
http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=519
or you can buy your own equipment for this.
Here's a picture under the correct link in this page of how to setup the reefing equipment:

Here are some links at this site for things to get and things to do.

Most will tell you that it is time to reef if the thought crosses your mind.
Better to be safe than sunk.
You also might want to think about a Jib downhaul.
This is a line to the cockpit from the head of the jib for lowering the jib faster and without someone going forward. The real advantage of the jib downhaul is that in a heavy wind, the jib/genoa will tend to want to climb the forestay on it's own to give you a flogging mess out on the bow. With a jiffy reefing system and a jib downhaul, it is easier to single hand these boats.
