Replacement propane locker with lid and latches for boats originally supplied with propane systems. New propane tanks are now taller than the original tanks installed in boats. This is due to a new safety requirement that demands an overfill protection valve be mounted inside the tank. This new locker assembly accommodates the taller tanks.

The 4# tank is available below under "May we also suggest".

Four stainless steel latches and catches are included. Inserts with female threads are installed in the plastic. The fasteners that secure the latches are screwed into these inserts.

Drill the enclosure where you require the propane feed, electrical feed, and venting. There are labels of each provided on the outside of the enclosure. Confirm that these locations are appropriate for your replacement installation by comparing to the original enclosure before drilling.

We have fittings available to accommodate each. See options if or as needed in the May We Also Suggest section below.

In many early Catalinas, propane systems, using these lockers, were standard equipment unless the boat was ordered with the compressed natural gas option. The lockers were mounted inside the port side cockpit seat locker, up high, on a shelf. They must be mounted high enough that the vent hoses lead down all the way to the transom and are never below the waterline.

Your boat's installation may vary since every boat was built by hand.

1) This kit is intended to be a REPLACEMENT for early Catalinas that were supplied from the factory with this locker for the propane fueled stoves and ovens. A photo of your old installation will be required.

If your boat was not supplied with the propane system when it was built, reach out to your local boatyard and have them purchase this locker for your installation. They have the technical expertise to complete an installation that conforms to current safety requirements.

2) This new Propane Locker accommodates the taller 4lb tank that has an Overfill Protection Device internal valve. It will not accommodate a larger capacity 10lb tank.

3) A properly installed tank locker is absolutely essential for a safe propane system installation. The locker must be equipped with a bottom drain connected via a hose to a fitting on the outside of the stern. A second vent and hose, located near the top of the box and also led to the transom, provides a source for fresh air into the box if a leak occurs. Both of these hoses are required for proper ventilation overboard.
