1) Always use an electric remote solenoid in your propane system to shut off the propane supply when the system is not in use! See "May we also suggest:" below for the solenoid.

2) Either regulator, #Z3830 or #Z5004, has more than adequate BTU capacity unless you have installed additional propane fired equipment in your boat beyond what was standard when built. The difference is in the quality of the regulator used in the kits. Note the construction of the two. The more expensive kits use a regulator fastened together with machine screws and is considered a higher quality unit. The less expensive kits use a more easily mass produced regulator that is crimped together and, although it will still last for years, is considered the inferior of the two. If you plan to keep the boat for years to come, purchase the higher quality.

3) Industry norm for regulator replacement is every 15 years due to degradation of internal components including the critical spring and rubber diaphragm. Regulator must be replaced immediately if it has been underwater or if you smell propane at the vent. Older regulators are potentially hazardous, so if your regulator is more than 15 years old, replace it.
