Outhaul C-22 Four Part

Part #: D1718
$79.68
A functional outhaul is an absolute necessity to achieve proper sail shape.

"Oh, but I'm not a racer" you say. Tell that to the admiral when the boat is on its ear, the windows are in the water, and she has white knuckles from holding on.
If you can't easily trim your outhaul, the draft of your main will be too full and the boat will be heeling too much... Slow and uncomfortable. Give your boat and crew a rest. Make it easy to trim mains'l shape with our 4:1 purchase outhaul kit and keep your boat on its feet! Kit includes everything you need to install a proper outhaul on your Catalina 22.

1) Referring to the drawing below you see there is plenty of room for the blocks that create the 4:1 mechanical advantage to live between the clew of the mains'l and the aft end of the boom. This is true of most original equipment sails which tended to be made smaller than the class rules allow. Typically to use this kit you will need at least 4-1/2" of space between the forward side of your clew grommet and the aft side of the pad eye for the outhaul block. Ideally you will want more space to allow for some stretch in the sail as the sail ages.

2) A new Catalina Direct Ullman mains'l is made to take full advantage of the foot length allowed by the class rules and therefore may have a longer foot than your original sail. If you have a Catalina Direct Ullman main we recommend our 8:1 outhaul offered below under "May we also suggest". Since the blocks that create the mechanical advantage are all inside of the boom it takes very little space between the clew of the mains'l and the aft end of the boom. This provides more travel for the outhaul and increases the tension you can apply to the foot of the sail in heavier winds.

3) You will want to ensure that your sail can accommodate the inside length of the shackle. This shorter shackle will assist you in getting the outhaul in tighter for a flatter sail. If you cannot accommodate this shackle, please see the shackle under "May we also suggest" below for more shackle options.
