Its purpose is to secure the anchor rode into the roller. This prevents the rode from jumping out of roller when the boat is at anchor and sailing on its hull in the middle of a breezy night. It comes with the lanyard and ring pin pictured. When we built the stainless frame, we provided a small extra hole in the side plate. Attach the ring pin into that hole in the side plate and the quick pin is secured against accidental loss.
