If in the future you decide to lead the cunningham aft to the cockpit, remove the bottom wire pendant from the bottom block. Shackle the block directly to the mast step. Replace the line with a longer length, then lead it directly from the bottom of the block (not through the "V" jam cleat), then outboard to your deck organizer.
The cunningham, in conjunction with the outhaul,
traveler, and
boom vang, is one of the major components that provide full control over mainsail shape. Adding luff tension with the cunningham as the wind increased brings the
draft forward and reduces heeling. When you have control over sail shape you have control over heel angle, speed, and the ability to sail to weather when the going gets rough.
Keep the heel angle reasonable and the boat is under control and more comfortable for your crew. Maintain the correct airfoil shape and the boat will point higher even when it's windy enough you're sailing on the ragged edge.
The length of this item is based on the original factory specifications. However, the previous owner, like Captain Jack Sparrow, may have had an entirely different idea about how to rig a boat! Please confirm this is the correct length for your particular boat. We cut it from a long length and can't splice it back together again. Your order cannot be canceled, returned or exchanged, but, like Jack, you may have a different idea of what you can use it for!
