Backstay, Adjustable Retrofit, C-25

Part #: E1881
$441.50
Retrofit this adjustable backstay to a Catalina 25 originally equipped with the old style split adjustable backstay. The early design used wire blocks running up and down the bridle wire. When the two blocks were pulled down by the adjusting tackle, they pinched the two bridle wires together and tightened the backstay. Very little adjustment was provided by this design and worse, when you need the most mechanical advantage as the backstay tightened, you had the least.
Newer adjustable backstays use a cascade design that provides a constant 8:1 mechanical advantage throughout its travel. It is always easy to apply proper backstay tension. Enjoy better performance while sailing yet let your boat relax while she's in her slip by taking the tension off the rig.

For those with roller furling, an adjustable backstay makes trailering easier too. Ease the backstay adjuster and pull the top of the mast forward with a halyard. Now you can remove the forestay clevis pin without having to gain access to the forestay turnbuckle which is hidden under the sail and the furler's torque tube.

• Large ball bearing wire block for the bottom end of your existing backstay.
• Pre-fabricated cascade wire attaches to one existing chainplate and passes up through the wire block, then down to the fiddle blocks.
• Heavy duty ball bearing fiddle block attaches to the cascade wire.
• Heavy duty ball bearing fiddle block with a becket and integrated cam cleat attaches to the other existing chainplate on your transom.
• All of the line and hardware you will need for installation.

1) Since this kit does not include the top wire, each kit must be assembled individually in order to match what might be on the bottom of your existing backstay. This is not an efficient method of production. We recommend you consider item E1745 pictured below under "May we also suggest". Since the upper part of the backstay is included in this kit, we know exactly how all components fit together and can fabricate batches of 20 kits in the winter for sale in the spring. These efficiencies allow us to offer E1745 that includes both the top wire of the backstay and the backstay chainplate for just a few dollars more than the E1881.

2) The length of this item is based on the original factory specifications. However, the previous owner, like Captain Jack Sparrow, may have had an entirely different idea about how to rig a boat! Please confirm this is the correct length for your particular boat. We cut it from a long length and can't splice it back together again. Your order cannot be canceled, returned or exchanged, but, like Jack, you may have a different idea of what you can use it for!
