Water Pump for Fresh Water System

Part #: Z3840
$197.99
SHURflo reports this is a direct screw-in replacement for SHURflo pumps used by Catalina beginning in July 2008. SHURflo also reports it also has the same mounting hole pattern as the pumps used from 1988 until 2008. There is no record of the mounting hole pattern of earlier pumps. New mounting holes may have to be drilled into the plywood mounting platform on boats built prior to 1988, but this is a very simple procedure. Our pump includes hose barb adapters for the 1/2" ID hose used in most Catalinas.
Early original equipment pumps, regardless of manufacturer, were designed to be used in conjunction with an accumulator tank.

An accumulator tank provides a volume of space filled with air that is compressed by the pressure pump. A bladder in the accumulator separates the water from the air. Since air can be compressed to a greater degree than water, the accumulator smoothes out the flow of water from the pump which is either on or off. It also keeps the pump from cycling on and off so frequently.

Due to both cost and space constraints, Catalina Yachts was only able to use accumulator tanks in their largest boats. Without an accumulator tank, the pressure pump tends to cycle on and off frequently. The particular pump we offer here includes two features that, in most installations, eliminates the need for an accumulator tank and yet still achieve smooth operation.

These new features provide smooth operation without the need for an accumulator tank:
• An adjustable internal bypass. This spring-loaded by-pass valve opens during low flow conditions allowing water from the output side to flow to the input side. This action provides smooth water flow with virtually no cycling even down to a trickle.
• An adjustable pressure switch. Used to balance the pressure supplied by the pump to the demands of your boat model.

Most modern pumps, this one included, are built with 1/2" pipe threads on the inlet and outlet. Our pump includes two fittings to adapt the 1/2" pipe thread to 1/2" hose barbs. Most Catalinas require these hose barb adapters. The Catalina 320, Catalina 42 and some of the later Florida built boats were equipped with either 1/2" black PEX tubing or 15mm blue rigid tubing. For these installations we offer appropriate connectors below under "May we also suggest"
• Voltage: 12 DC
• Flow Rate: 3.0 GPM
• Amps: 6.5
• Control:
Shut-Off 55 PSI +- 2 PSI
Re-start 40 PSI +- 2 PSI
Maximum By-Pass 62 PSI +- 2 PSI

Dimensions:
• Length overall: 7 3/8"
• Maximum width: 4 1/2"
• Mounting hole center-to-center (across the width of the pump): 3 1/2"
• Mounting hole center to center (along the length of the pump): 2"
This pump is suitable for use in any Catalina originally equipped with pressure water from the factory. It may also be used to retrofit any early boat (like a Catalina 27) originally equipped with manual pumps. Our research indicates Catalina Yachts purchased these pumps during the periods mentioned above. There is no guarantee that every boat built used the same pump. If their vendor ran out of pumps, Catalina didn't stop building boats! They may have purchased another substitute pump in order to continue production until their regular pump vendor was able to resupply them. In any case, this pump will work well.
