Pedestal Steering Radial Drive Wheel C-400

Radial drive wheel for the Catalina 400. Pinned heat treated anodized aluminum. Accepts two cables as is required with the dual pedestal configuration on the Catalina 400.
Used on these boats when equipped with Edson pedestal steering:
• Catalina 400
• Outside diameter: approximately 25"
• Inside diameter: Bored to 2.860" (see note below)
1) The inside diameter of the drive wheel must be individually machined for an exact fit to your rudder shaft. The specified inside diameter of the drive wheel to fit a Catalina 400 rudder shaft is 2.860". If yours is greater than 0.003" difference, please contact our Technical Support at 916/843-1971.

3) A 50% nonrefundable deposit will be billed when your order for this item is accepted. The balance will be billed when the product ships.

4) When you order this special order item it sets off a chain of events like Willie Wonka in the chocolate factory. Once you turn the valve the chocolate is coming down the pipe. If you then decide you want caramel, the chocolate is still going to come out of the pipe. We can't put the Chocolate back in the pipe, so someone is going to have to eat it, and it's not going to be us! Your order can't be canceled, returned, or magically changed into caramel, so please order carefully the first time!

5) The original hole for the through-bolt that secures the drive wheel to the rudder shaft was drilled with a hand drill from inside the boat after the boat was put together. Because of this, it is not possible for the manufacturer to drill the hole in both sides of the drive wheel and have any chance of it lining up with the original holes drilled in the rudder shaft. This means that you will have to drill the second hole yourself to match the original installation, using the original holes in the rudder shaft as a guide.

6) This cast aluminum part is in a corrosive environment. We highly recommend the use of MareLube TEF pictured below. The dissimilar metals (stainless steel fasteners into the aluminum wheel) are an ideal environment for galvanic corrosion to take place. MareLube TEF applied at the fasteners help isolate the stainless from the aluminum to prevent corrosion and make it easier to remove the fasteners in the future.

It is also important to flush the salt water residue out of this compartment periodically. Remove the inspection port and flush liberally with fresh water at least monthly. Remove the entire panel and clean thoroughly once a year.

7) Since radial drive wheels are installed in unseen spaces below deck they are not given the same level of fit and finish as above deck parts. The manufacture takes great pride in the parts they provide. Cosmetic imperfections are considered a tradeoff to provide the parts with the strength and durability required for years of service at a reasonable price. These replacement wheels are anodized after they were cast, but before they were machined to the specifications required for your boat model. After machining the radial drive wheels, the manufacture may use paint to cover some areas. This is not a defect, but a feature of the process to efficiently produce the radial drive wheels with the shortest lead time possible and get you back out sailing.
