Typically inside of the mast and protected from the weather, but you may want a set when replacing your rigging in case you find they are suspect in the course of your rerig project.

To install, upper shroud with stem ball and cup washer is fed through the large hole at the bottom and the fitting is rotated 90 degrees to fit through the cutout in the mast, then back vertically and secured with fastener at the top.

Current fittings are cast stainless steel as opposed to the originally, no longer available stamped versions.
