CP-16, CP-18, CP-22 <-2000 Shoal or Wing Keel Rudder Blade Only HDPE

Part #: BI9036
$795.00

This HDPE rudder is solid plastic, carved by machine from a single block. No fiberglass to split, chip or crack, and no wood or foam core to absorb water.

It's like adding power steering to your Capri 16, Capri 18 or Capri 22! When placing your order for this item please determine whether you have a Shoal or Wing keel.

The original rudder with it's leading edge angled aft, shifts surface area aft applying more load to the tiller for a given rudder load. This rudder, with a true NACA airfoil shape is much more efficient with less drag and more lift than your original rudder.Owners typically experience much lighter tiller effort, crisper tacking and improved pointing as a result of the improved airfoil section. You will experience better slow speed maneuverability while docking as well.

HDPE rudders are so robust that we can avoid the plywood packaging necessary when fiberglass rudders are shipped via UPS. This saves you a $50.00 packaging charge.

• Overall length: 56-1/2"
• Chord length: 12"
• Thickness: 1-1/2"
• Depth below bottom of transom: 24" (This may or may not be the draft depending upon the trim of the boat)
• Designed for boats with distance between pintles of: 12" (pintles not included)

1) Since these rudders are not original equipment and are a more advanced shape, they are not legal for class racing. This relieves us from having to duplicate the old rudder shape. Instead we can offer an improved shape which is a NACA (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics) 0012 airfoil. This airfoil is considered by many sailboat designers to be the ideal combination of maximum lift with minimal drag.

2) You must decide if the 56-1/2" length is appropriate for use on your boat. The original factory length was 53". Sailing with extra weight in the cockpit for example may cause the rudder to be deep enough to go aground before the keel. This rudder can be made shorter than our typical 56-1/2" length but will experience reduced performance, especially in heavy air. Please measure your boat carefully before ordering to ensure the 56-1/2" overall length fits your needs.

3) Since there is some variation from boat to boat in its location, The tiller bolt hole must be drilled by customer to match his existing location.

4) This item does not conform to the shipping table in the Shopping Cart. Additional shipping must be calculated. When you place your order we always call with a shipping quote before billing your card. For a quote in advance, just call 800/959-7245.

5) A 50% nonrefundable deposit will be billed when your order for this item is accepted. The balance will be billed when the product ships.

6) When you order this special order item it sets off a chain of events like Willie Wonka in the chocolate factory. Once you turn the valve the chocolate is coming down the pipe. If you then decide you want caramel, the chocolate is still going to come out of the pipe. We can't put the Chocolate back in the pipe, so someone is going to have to eat it, and it's not going to be us! Your order can't be canceled, returned, or magically changed into caramel, so please order carefully the first time!

Caution: Never leave any rudder sitting in the sun in the back of your pickup. With half the rudder immersed while moored, water will dissipate any heat buildup. But while stored, heat may damage the rudder. A Fiberglass rudder may expand and split at the seams. A polyethylene rudder may warp. Always store your rudder out of the direct sun.
