We keep our C-22 on a dock but will be cruising Lake Champlain this summer and need a dingy to take along for anchoring/going ashore. Any suggestions on what type (hard/inflatable). |

I bought a West Marine RU2 (44 lb). I like it because it is light (44 lbs), the wood slats roll up without having to remove them, and the 3HP engine (another 40lbs) hangs on the stern rail. The downside is that it will not plane, and it has a capacity of only 418lb. (A couple with or without young kids, not 4 adults). It costs $800.
If you want to plane, get a High Pressure Floor inflatable, but expect to spend at least twice as much, and weigh 70-100lbs, plus you'd get a bigger motor ($)

Typo--That was an RU-200, not an RU-2 |

I have to dinghies, I like them both for different reasons While mooring I use a walker bay 8... No motor, just oars and sail kit. Sometimes when I travel far away, I use the sevylor 250 tender... it’s easy to stow, easy to tow and has a cool burgee attached to the front... who could ask for anything more. They both stand up to a lot of abuse. The best part is that if something goes wrong and I loose one, no tears will be shed. |
