I am re-wiring the mast on my 1979 Catalina 22. I have pulled the old wiring out and purchased new from West Marine. I have re-run the base-to-top wire wire with 14 gauge and also replaced the antenna wire. I started to replace to old mid-mast-light wire with 14 gauge tri-plex, but it wouldn't fit through the hole. The wire that I pulled out was 18 gauge in a round (not flat, side-by-side) configuration which leaves more room. Is 18 gauge OK, or do I need to go lower? I definitely need the round configuration as that is the only thing that will fit. I don't want to enlarge the hole in the mast to accommodate the wire.

Thanks.
