Due to the support we receive from customers like yourself, we are now able to have this gray rubrail extruded specially for us. This creates an opportunity to have the manufacturer mix a UV inhibitor into the plastic before it's extruded. Its extra resistance to the sun helps it to look good longer than your original rubrail. For Catalina 27's built before 1973. 100' long. 64' is required for the Catalina 27, but only a 50' (see D2063) or this 100' length are available.
Being new, this material is more supple than your old rubrail. Replacement is simple. Just start at one end (you may have to remove the five screws holding the transom trim first) and zip it out.
To reinstall, coil it in a bucket of very hot water. Add a bit of dish soap to make it slippery. Then just work it in as you work your way around the boat. If it's cold out, add more hot water as you go to keep it supple.
1) If your Catalina 27 is older than 1973 you must measure the width of your rubrail as it was not recorded exactly what hull number received the newer wide rubrail. Width of this narrow rubrail is .65". Newer rubrail is 1.3" wide.
