Here is a design upgrade that provides a significant improvement in the handling and sailing characteristics of your Catalina 25.

The balanced rudder is simple to install. Just hang the new rudder on your existing pintles. (We recommend upgrading all C-25's to heavy duty gudgeons.)

A balanced rudder acts like you've added power steering. But feedback through the tiller isn't sacrificed.

How it works:
Move some of the rudder's surface area forward of the axis of the pivot point. Now, as the boat moves through the water, some of the load acting on the rudder is forward of the pivot, some is aft. The load applied forward is opposite the load applied aft and is therefore subtracted from the total load felt at the tiller. This means less load on the tiller.

1) Catalina yachts has used several molds and rudder designs throughout the production of the Catalina 25. Some of these molds did not make the transition to production in the Florida factory. If you own a wing keel version of the Catalina 25, it is important you measure your boat to confirm that the overall depth of this rudder is appropriate for your boat. Failure to measure might in a rudder that is deep enough that the rudder may go aground before the keel.

2) This item does not conform to the shipping table in the Shopping Cart. Additional shipping must be calculated. When you place your order we always call with a shipping quote before billing your card. For a quote in advance, call 800/959-7245.

3) An additional packaging charge also applies to this item.

4) A 50% nonrefundable deposit will be billed when your order for this special order item is accepted. The balance will be billed when the product ships.

5) When you order this special order item it sets off a chain of events like Willie Wonka in the chocolate factory. Once you turn the valve the chocolate is coming down the pipe. If you then decide you want caramel, the chocolate is still going to come out of the pipe. We can't put the Chocolate back in the pipe, so someone is going to have to eat it, and it's not going to be us! Your order can't be canceled, returned, or magically changed into caramel, so please order carefully the first time!
