This color coded extension harness Connects the engine to the engine instrument panel.
• 16 feet long, one foot longer than the original. Allows replacement of the old push together plugs with upgraded terminal strips.
• Tin plated over copper wire resists corrosion in the marine environment.
• Both ends are dipped on molten solder for an excellent connection and ease of installation.
• Typically used on the Catalina 34 abd Catalina 36, some owners of other Catalinas have chosen to use this harness as well.
Includes nine color coded wires that match to match the OEM standard:
• Black - Ground
• White - Glow Plugs
• Yellow w/red stripe - Starter
• Red - Battery +
• Purple - Alternator excite
• Blue w/black stripe - Oil Pressure switch
• Tan - Temperature sender
• Gray - Tachometer
• Tan w/black stripe - Water temperature switch
Some Catalina 34 and Catalina 36 owners report the original 15' wiring harness connecting the engine to the engine panel had no extra length that would allow an upgrade. Once the suspect push together plugs in the system have been removed to facilitate the charging system upgrade, the wires are not long enough to reach the new terminal strips.
This harness can typically be used on any Catalina with a Universal Diesel with the exception of the Catalina 30 which is likely to need the 18' harness shown below under "May we also suggest". Owners of some of the other Catalina models have also chosen to use the longer 18' harness to provide more options for routing or instrument panel placement. The choice is yours.
The original 8 pin push together plugs connecting the engine and instrument panel are a high resistance connection that often overheat and could cause a fire.
Always replace the original 8 pin plugs with the terminal strips offered below as "Engine Wiring Harness Upgrade Kit". They provide a physically more secure, low resistance connection that reduces unwanted heating.
