Custom made to fit the airfoil shaped
spreaders used on most Catalinas including the Catalina 250, Capri 26, and the Catalina 270's lower spreaders (the upper spreaders of the C-270 are smaller. These boots will be a bit large but still the closest available fit for the Catalina 270's upper spreaders). They are also a prefect fit for the Catalina 30. They are also appropriate for the Catalina 310, Catalina 34, and Catalina 36. With it's double spread rig, the Catalina 400 spreaders also use this same size boot.
Catalina 42s have used two different sizes spreader sets over the years and these are the best leather boots for those applications as well. Your rigger should be able to install the kits without issues.
All boats should have boots on the outboard end of the spreaders. They help protect the leech of your genoa during
tacks or if a zealous crew over-trims the
sheet. On a run they protect the main from chafe when you ease the main out against the spreaders.
Keep in mind that these boots are not made in Asia by 12 year olds. They are made in the US using very expensive dies that punch out the shape and holes for stitching all in one operation. The four sizes of boots we carry represent a tooling expense of thousands of dollars. There are not 20 different sizes of boots in 1/8" size increments. There is no need for that.
The purpose of the boot is to protect you sails from chafe at the outboard end of the spreaders where sharp corners or safety wire might damage your sails. On smaller spreaders the edge of the leather may overlap at the inside seam. On larger spreaders, the seam may have a gap between the edges of the leather. Either is of no consequence. It is the smooth outboard surface protecting the sails that we care about. We don't care about the look of the inboard seam.
