Yes, the bases are the same size and shape and the mounting hole pattern is the same.
Let’s just say you’re having the strongest member of the crew step the mast. He is straddling the mast facing aft while lifting the mast. If anything causes the mast in the step to move just slightly aft, let’s just hope he has had all of the children he ever wants to father.
Trim off the mast base by 1.5" and install our Mast Step Shim Kit on the deck and under the mast step.
Mark the mast where the cut is desired and use a simple hack saw. Cut slowly and carefully while you follow your line around the mast.
Make an accurately placed mark 1.5” from the base of the mast. Wrap a piece of heavy paper around the mast at the mark. Draw around the mast using the heavy paper as your guide.
The pin is only held in place by two cotter pins at either end, just inside the mast. They aren’t visible with the mast up, but easy to remove when the mast is down.
This is one of two places on a 22 where we use our Polyurethane Sealant / High Strength Adhesive (the other being the motor mount). Find it below under "May we also suggest". With the advent of our Marine Sealant Debond Kit, it is no longer an issue if the need ever arises to remove it. With all of the leverage of the mast when stepping or unstepping, we need all the help we can to insure the bond between the mast step and the deck doesn’t fail. If it does fail, water will find its way into the plywood layer in the deck and dry rot will start.
