Keel Cable Assembly C-22

Part #: D1190
$108.70
Includes the cable, fork, clevis pin and cotter pin. All are made from highly corrosion resistant type 316 stainless steel, not the cheaper type 304 stainless originally used. The fork is permanently swaged to the wire.
The addition of molybdenum gives type 316 stainless steel better overall corrosion resistant properties than type 304 stainless, particularly higher resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in a salt water environment.

Tips to prevent failure of the keel cable:
• Always lower the keel onto the trailer while trailering.
• Apply a bit of tension after lowering to set the winch's clutch and prevent a rat's nest of cable as it unwinds.
• Never allow excess slack in the cable after lowering the keel. If the cable is loose, the cable will be "waving in the breeze" as the water flows past. The constant bending will work harden the cable at the top of the fork and it will fail.
